CTA’s New PS3 Assault Rifle: Awkward and Ungainly

CTA should go down in the history books as the number one producer of the worst video gaming peripherals ever—just look the garbage they’ve saturated the Wii controller market with if you don’t believe me.  This time, the company has set their sites on Sony’s console and their new PS3 Assault Rifle controller looks to be the worst yet.
CTA says the controller is designed with FPS and specifically Modern Warfare II in mind but I’m pretty sure those are just names they’re throwing out there to make it look like their controller is actually worth the $65 you’re going to have to pay to get your hands on one.
What this controller boils down to is a toy assault rifle (complete with cheesy electronic “gunfire” sounds) with a mangled Playstation controller grafted to its innards.  The buttons are on the barrel of the gun while the thumbsticks are found on the handgrip and on the barrel.  Not only does this button placement make for some uncomfortable gaming, but it also makes it nearly impossible to control your reticle accurately.  I’m sure, with a little time, users could get over the learning curve but why bother?
Even the gameplay CTA uses in its own promotional video looks craptastic and you don’t even have to point the rifle at the screen (in the video it’s parallel!)  So much for the “realistic” gameplay the company is promising.  I’d pass on this one.
